How did a person manage to paint on the airship? Terra wondered that as she watched Relm. The girl had set up a miniature easel and today used the small brushes of her craft, not the outsized instrument that she wielded in battle. "It's called impressionism," she said, not looking up from her work. "It was all the rage back before the world ended."

Terra took this as an invitation to come closer and sit next to her. "Oh--it looks so different up close. When I was back there, everything was clearer."

The girl nodded and dabbed at her palette. "That's right. This style doesn't focus on fine details."

"So that's how you paint up here."

"I should point out that it's unwise to criticize the man who's responsible for making this ride so smooth," drawled Setzer from the wheel. Relm rolled her eyes and flicked paint water towards him, but Terra only shot a quick apologetic glance--he was wholly focused on his task, too. She turned back to the painting.

"Why are you up here, if you aren't painting what you see?"

"I am!" Relm added a touch of darker blue to the top of the sky. "You're telling me you can't see what's out there?"

Terra frowned and looked out over the railing. The sky was still that diseased brown, and the ocean below glinted a sickly gold from its muddy waves, nothing like the painting. Even after everything she'd experienced in the year since she'd been freed, there were still things that she didn't understand when it came to people. "Well... I see the mountains and the coastline that are out there. But the colors are wrong."

Relm nodded sharply, glaring at the muddy sky. "You're right. Those colors are wrong. These--" she tapped the easel with the stick end of the brush-- "are the right ones."

What...? "Oh!"

The girl grinned and dabbed paint on the end of Terra's nose. "Don't tell me you forgot the sky is blue."
